Number 1 Cornbrook will be 24 storeys tall
A new 24-storey block of flats and hotel is set to be built after being recommended for planning approval.
Number 1 Cornbrook, set to be built on a patch of wasteland near Cornbrook Metrolink stop, will be 78 metres . Some 224 apartments, including eight penthouses, will go into floors five to 23 of the block. The lower floors will be an aparthotel, with 87 such studio flats occupying floors one to four. The aparthotel could be called Gateways, computer imagery on the planning application suggests.Now, the project has been recommended for planning approval at the council’s next planning meeting on June 28. Cornbrook has seen a spate of development in recent years — and the firm behind the Number 1 scheme, Forshaw, believe it will be the final piece of the jigsaw.
“This building will complete the development of the parcel of land fronting Chester Road, as identified in the Framework document,” planning documents said when submitted in February. Other recent developments include Vox Manchester opening in 2021, and the nearby Trilogy apartment complex completed in 2019. This scheme is one of three to be debated at the same meeting, with the others being a proposal to create a homeless centre in Miles Platting and a bid to build an extension on Burton Road.
