Starting on Saturday, July 16, anyone in the United States will be able to call or text just three digits — 988 — to get help from a trained counselor in the event of aJust like everyone knows to dial 911 in case of a general emergency, officials hope that the new number will save lives when it comes to.
The former number for the National Suicide Prevention Line, which launched in 2005, will still work indefinitely: 1-800-273-8255.
