P.A. Works' new movie makes whisky-making interesting.
The new trailer of P.A. Works' upcoming drama film, Komada — A Whisky Family, despite its atypical premise, shows how adept the Japanese anime industry is at making easygoing but heartfelt stories out of the most obscure ideas. Footage from the newest trailer shows off excellent artwork that brings the languishing distillery to life. Anime viewers interested in meditative slice-of-life tales can expect a Japanese premiere later this year.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The idea of a movie about whisky seems to be something better reserved for a documentary, or even a parody, but Komada focuses more on than just brewing a good glass. The story about rescuing a family business is always universally resonant, whether or not it includes alcohol trivia. Combined with down-to-earth quality visuals, and P.A. Works' movie promises a slow-burning drama that ought to be comfortable to watch.
Judging by the footage provided, Komada seems to be the right blend of slice-of-life and drama. A lot of slow-going anime centers on a specific hobby: Laid Back Camp is the most famous example today. The focus on whisky in P.A. Works' movie and its detailed and realistic scenery are both in line with the slice-of-life formula.
Komada Is A Welcome Original Work Among A Sea Of Adaptations Komada is part of P.A. Works' "working series" focused on original anime. In a sea of adaptations, fresh ideas are welcome, especially ones bold enough to try such an unusual topic. Critics seem to also see this movie's potential, as Komada has also been selected to compete in the Contrechamp category of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
