EXCLUSIVE: The Scottish Government initiative follows the Record's succesful Our Kids... Our Future campaign that calls for tech giants to clampdown on violence shared online.
Young Scots will be urged to think twice and stop sharing violent footage on social media under a new national campaign. Quit Fighting For Likes aims to get youngsters to consider their attitudes towards the filming of fights on smartphones.
The footage shows Abbie, who was 12 at the time, being kicked on the head and in the body after she was lured to the skatepark in the Drumchapel area of Glasgow and set upon by a girl she thought was her friend. The courageous youngster secured the meeting after her mum Vicky, 38, penned an open letter to Swinney, calling for urgent action following the "senseless" death of 16-year-old Kory McCrimmon in Glasgow. The teenager died after a disturbance in a city park and a 13-year-old boy has since been charged with his murder.
"Unless the social media giants take action to stop videos being uploaded and shared then it won't stop. I am very glad to hear they've been working with schools though and I hope they will take this across every school in Scotland."
