The farm shop in Walkeringham would be open four days a month
A new farm shop could be set up in a Nottinghamshire village selling home-made honey and freshly baked bread. The Crawforth family, which owns Highfield Farm in the village of Walkeringham in Bassetlaw, has applied to create a farm shop and tea room on the Nottinghamshire-Yorkshire border.
The two venues would be operated on part of the farm's land which is currently used to store and distribute goods from its Navy Farm business. The farmers say visitors will be able to buy Navy Farm products alongside locally produced items including honeys, preserves, art and homeware. No changes would need to be made to the outside of the existing agricultural building according to the family business' planners. The farm shop would be open four days a month between 10am-4pm in the Autumn and Winter and 10am-10pm in the Spring and Summer.The tea room will be stocked with locally produced baked goods refreshments and preserves, the planning document said. The prospective owners said it would be supplied locally and ethically using nearby farmers and bakers.
Only 30 customers would be able to visit the farm shop and tea room at one time. A shuttle bus to and from the village would be offered to transport local residents to the shop and tea room, which Navy Farm said was in line with its aim of being sustainable. A planning document submitted by the Crawforth family's architects said: "The proposed development demonstrates the applicant's desire to create a new home business and careful re-use of redundant agricultural buildings to a very limited amount, but with the overriding benefit of providing sustainably sourced food and products for sale to local residents through the farm shop and tea room." The planning application is pending consideration by Bassetlaw District Council.
