Plans have been submitted for the project
A new future has been revealed for an empty Nottingham city centre fashion shop. The former Kurt Geiger shop in Bridlesmith Gate closed at the end of January 2023 and has been vacant ever since.
The luxury British footwear and accessories store first opened in 2005. Plans have now been submitted to improve the shopfront and convert the upper floors of the period building into apartments. The second floor would also be altered to provide a second two-bedroom apartment, designs show. The pedestrian street is considered the most expensive shopping street in Nottingham, with designer brands such as Hugo Boss and Ted Baker, and independent fashion stores increasingly setting up in the regenerated area. The proposal is for "keeping the existing shell of the building", with no extension or external alterations proposed.
In a planning document, architect Marsh and Grochowski on behalf of applicant WSD1 Ltd, said: "We believe that the enclosed application is in compliance with the relevant Local Plan Policies and we hope that proof has been provided that development is well designed, sustainable and contextual; respecting the surrounding setting. Every effort has been taken to enhance the nature of the conservation area." The planning application is pending consideration by Nottingham City Council.
