Some savvy sellers are trying to make a quick profit as the New King Charles III notes have been listed for up to £400 in Watford.
Savvy Watford sellers are trying to make a quick profit by listing the new King Charles III banknotes for multiple times their value.
The new £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes featuring the King’s portrait were released by the Bank of England on June 5 to join the existing currency, which will remain legal tender.Less than a week after their release, they have been listed on Ebay 26 times within 10 miles of Watford town centre, with one seller even trying to flog a full set of the four notes for £399.99.
The new £5 notes are on sale for between £13 and £25, while another seller is offering a set of two £50 notes for £160 in total. The Bank of England said the new additions will only be printed to replace worn banknotes and meet any increase in demand for the physical currency.Collectors can get their hands on them for a limited time only by sending their old-issue notes by post to the Bank of England to exchange them.
The offer is open until June 30 with a limit of £300 per customer and more details are available on the Bank of England website. We want our comments to be a lively and valuable part of our community - a place where readers can debate and engage with the most important local issues.
