SANTA FE, Nuevo México, EE.UU. — Una nueva demanda colectiva afirma que las autoridades federales de inmigración de Estados Unidos ignoraron las señales de condiciones insalubres e inseguras en un centro de detención de Nuevo México para garantizar que la instalación permaneciera abierta y recibiendo financiación pública.
Han instado al ICE a poner fin a su contrato con un operador privado, y han pedido a los legisladores estatales que prohíban los contratos del gobierno local para la detención de migrantes. “La cuestión es que el ICE no puede hacerse de la vista gorda ante las condiciones en los centros de detención”, dijo Mark Feldman, abogado sénior del Centro Nacional de Justicia para Inmigrantes, uno d los grupos que representan a los demandantes.
