'The high street has been under incredible pressure'
Questions about car parks, transport, regeneration and Lancaster 's economy were raised by city councillors when an idea for a potential new multi-storey car park sparked some surprise and debate. There were also questions about the closed Castle Car Park, which has structural problems.
"We are committed to identifying the right solutions to both allow us to maintain the necessary quantity of parking in the right locations but also allow us to achieve meaningful and much-needed regeneration in the Canal Quarter. In questions, Green Coun Sarah McGowan asked: "The leader's report mentions Lancaster car parking The Castle Car Park has been closed because of structural issues. Can you give an update on bringing it back to use?"
Coun McGowan then asked: "The leader's report also talks about the north end of the gyratory road system. Given the climate emergency and emissions from cement production, do you not think we should repair what we have rather than build something new?" "We have started work on future planning for car parks . A multi-storey car park is one of the things we are looking at. There are other options. But we must remember we may lose some infrastructure with other developments. We will do our best to meet as many needs as possible."
