However, for local restaurants, your mileage may vary on how far you'll have to travel to find an open restaurant. Half of local restaurants remain open on New Year’s Day, according to an analysis from Womply, a small business software provider. But you will have to be patient. “With half of restaurants closed, and people itching to get out with their friends and family, your favorite local restaurant may be more busy than usual on New Year’s Day," said Brad Plothow, Womply vice president of corporate marketing and communications, who suggests checking for adjusted hours.
