New York City recorded nearly two dozen shootings over the Labor Day weekend as the New York Police Department dispatched additional officers to counter a surge in violent crime this summer.
NYPD data showed there were 22 shootings across the city from Friday through Monday, including a case in which a 6-year-old boy was injured when he was struck in the leg by a bullet in Brooklyn. The city recorded 16 shootings during the 2019 Labor Day weekend, according to the NYPD.
