The increase in murders in the last four weeks was driven in part by a quadruple homicide in Manhattan’s Chinatown neighborhood on Saturday

Murders and shootings in New York City are on the rise this year, according to New York City Police Department data released Monday.

Figures compiled by NYPD officials show the city has recorded 249 murders between Jan. 1 and Oct. 6, up just over 1% from 246 murders in the same period in 2018. The pace of killings increased 28% in the past month, rising from 25 murders for the four-week period ending Oct. 6, 2018, to 32 in the same period this year.
