District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr., filed the federal lawsuit in the Southern District of New York,
that would protect “former and/or current Presidents from politically motivated prosecutions by state and local officials.”to a former prosecutor in Bragg’s office who led its probe of Trump. The subpoena orders Mark Pomerantz to testify before the committee by April 30.next week to “examine how Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s pro-crime, anti-victim policies have led to an increase in violent crime and a dangerous community for New York City residents.
Noting that Trump is running for president again, Jordan claims that Bragg’s prosecution is a politically motivated effort to tamper in the election. Bragg says he’s charging Trump because nobody is above the law. Bragg’s lawsuit says Congress lacks the power to supervise state criminal prosecutions, or to serve subpoenas for the personal aggrandizement of the investigators or to punish those investigated.
“Chairman Jordan claims he is seeking to conduct ‘oversight,” the lawsuit continues. “But he has no power under the Constitution to oversee state and local criminal matters. By definition, then, he has no legitimate legislative purpose for issuing this subpoena. The subpoena threatens the sovereign powers of the States, confidence in the secrecy of grand jury proceedings, and the integrity of an ongoing criminal prosecution. This Court should enjoin its enforcement.
