A new General Manager of the embattled MBTA has officially been appointed Monday morning, as the Healey-Driscoll Administration announce former Long Island Rail Road President Phillip Eng will take over the role following a months-long, comprehensive search.
Transportation Secretary Gina Fiandaca in a news release. “Most importantly, Phil has excelled at finding solutions to challenging problems. It’s clear he is focused on customer satisfaction, operational excellence, and championing a safe, reliable transportation system. He has wide ranging experience as an executive manager for mass transit, highways, ports, waterways and aviation facilities. We look forward to having Phil guide and support improvements and innovations at the MBTA.
The LIRR is the largest commuter rail in the country, and serves nearly 90 million rides annually, according to the MTA.Eng also had a lengthy tenure with the New York State Department of Transportation, eventually holding positions such as Chief Engineer and Executive Deputy Commissioner.
