By all accounts, the Calgary Flames are a good team. Or. be a good team. They control play, they get chances, and they suppress them. They have star players, they’re deep, and they have strong goaltending behind a stout defensive system. Would’ve, could’ve, should’ve. None of that matters because they do not get results. They’re the opposite of a rogue cop that doesn’t go by the book. The Flames, by the book, should be a great team. But a great team they absolutely are not.
Part of that is luck. You’ve probably seen the stats about how many losses they have while outshooting opponents by 10. Their overtime record. Their record in one-goal games. All that jazz. They feel like they’re just cursed.. We’re talking about an all-time level bad. Maybe some wins to squeak into the playoffs would change that, but there’s just no sense from watching them that they have any actual mojo to pull that off.
