The Avoiding Brain Injury in Childbirth (ABC) pilot will launch at nine NHS trusts across England on Monday
A new pilot scheme aimed at reducing avoidable brain injuries during childbirth is set to launch at several NHS trusts across north west England on Monday. Nine maternity units will take part in the initiative, which aims to enhance maternity care for women and babies.
It will also provide support for staff dealing with emergencies during Caesarean births when a baby's head becomes lodged in the mother's pelvis.Six hospitals in the north west of England will participate in the pilot focusing on Caesarean births.
Baroness Gillian Merron, Minister for Patient Safety, Women's Health and Mental Health, commented: "This is a critical step toward avoiding preventable brain injuries in babies, as we work to make sure all women and babies receive safe, personalised and compassionate care.
