The number of medical school places will rise by “almost a third” to 10,000 places by 2028, thanks to the initial investment, but double by 2031.
– stark figures in a recent Royal College of Radiologists census suggest that 75 per cent of leavers in 2022 were under 60, meaning there is a real need to focus on retaining staff now., although welcomed by pretty much everyone in the NHS, is also an admission that there is no quick fix to the workforce crisis.– and that figure will not fall significantly anytime soon. The hope is that with funding, innovation and commitment, the long term health of the nation could be in a much better place.
It will be up to future Governments to decide how it is going to honour this commitment to longer-term funding from Year 5 of the plan onwards.has also been met with nods of approval but there is also a short-term need in the this area too that needs addressing.
