Gearaldine Hughes from West Belfast was one of three children handpicked by an American producer at the age of 14 to star in Children of the Crossfire
Northern Irish actress and producer Geraldine Hughes received an honorary doctorate from Ulster University in New York for her outstanding contribution to the Creative Industries.
She said: “This is a very proud moment, those who know me, know I feel very connected to my home place. I’m very much a product of the city of Belfast and I know that Ulster University is a huge part of the fabric of the city and the whole region of Northern Ireland.
She later attended the University of California in Los Angeles, graduating with a BA from the School of Theatre, Film and TV. Geraldine went on to star in films including Rocky Balboa and Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino. She worked among some legendary Hollywood icons and was recognized with several awards.
