Support for the Good Friday Agreement among loyalist communities has waned, and they have come under the influence of Trumpian attitudes in recent years.
Ian Acheson, a counter-terrorism expert, said the PSNI was concerned about a small minority of Easter Monday parades being dissident republican propaganda exercises “designed to undermine rule of law but also – potentially – to draw officers into confrontations that can be used as a cover to murder police officers”.
