The warning, which covers the majority of the region, comes into place at midday on Monday, January 16 until midday on Tuesday, January 17.
The forecaster said: "Snow showers will become more frequent through Monday, continuing to feed in on northwesterly winds overnight. Accumulations of a couple of centimetres are possible at low levels, with higher ground expected to see 5-10 cm in places. It comes as a prior warning issued for ice covering the whole country was in place until 10am on Monday morning.For Tuesday, the forecaster said: "Cold with some clear or sunny spells but also some sleet or snow showers in the north and west at first, spreading east later. Maximum temperature 3C."
