We chat with TheGreat stars nicholashoult & Elle Fanning about the state of the royal Russian union in season 3 of the hulu series, as well as Catherine's burgeoning diplomacy:
The Great season 3, which premieres May 12, will be the most complicated yet for lovebirds Catherine the Great and Peter III. The satirical Hulu series has received acclaim from critics and viewers since its first season, but season 3 is the first time they must deal with parenthood as Catherine grows into her role as ruler.
Elle Fanning: I think she's trying. I think in her mind, she almost felt like after the stabbing, maybe it all balances out; that she got him back in a way. They are in marriage counseling about it, so they're trying to work it out. I think they really do genuinely know that they love each other, and it's very true, real love.
Nicholas Hoult: How far can you push him is interesting because I think she can push him pretty far, to be honest with you. I think it's actually other people around the court and the ghost of his father kind of weighing on him and manipulating him and twisting his thoughts. Elle Fanning: That was so funny when I read that Tony [McNamara] had [written that]. We have the British ambassador and the American ambassador coming to town. In a way, I think it was a modern commentary on our times.
