Exclusive: Screen Rant presents a clip from Butcher’s Crossing in which Fred Hechinger’s Will sets Nicolas Cage’s Miller into a rage.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Butcher’s Crossing brings to life the rich world of a 1960 novel of the same name by John Edward Williams. Directed by Gabe Polsky, Butcher’s Crossing is the filmmaker’s narrative feature film directorial debut; Polsky’s previous work includes the 2019 film Red Penguins, which tells the story of a post-Soviet Union joint venture between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Red Army hockey team.

Screen Rant is excited to debut a clip from Butcher’s Crossing highlighting the performances of its leads Nicolas Cage and Fred Hechinger . Where it will rank among the list of Nicolas Cage’s best movies remains to be seen, but with the actor shaving his head and playing a die-hard buffalo hunter, it certainly looks to offer new dramatic ground for the actor. Take a look below:

More About Butcher’s Crossing The story of Butcher’s Crossing centers around Will Andrews , a young Harvard dropout who makes his way out west to follow a dream of hunting buffalo. He meets and works with Miller , a buffalo hunter who, judging by the Butcher’s Crossing trailer, is full of bloodlust. As seen in the clip above, it looks as though Will begins to question his initial desire to hunt buffalo, which isn’t received well by Miller.

Butcher’s Crossing appears to be a unique entry in the canon of Western films, focusing on human greed and humanity’s relationship with the environment. The buffalo were nearly hunted to extinction during the 1800s, with roughly 40 million killed over the course of a few decades. While touching on the unbridled slaughter of one of the signature animals of North America, Butcher’s Crossing also tackles subjects of ambition and masculinity.
