The Frasier reboot executive producer Chris Harris claims that the absence of Niles and Daphne is actually a blessing to Kelsey Grammer's show.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Frasier reboot won't feature Niles and Daphne, but executive producer Chris Harris says that it's actually a blessing. When Kelsey Grammer steps back into the world of Frasier Crane, he will do so without the majority of the beloved cast from the original Seattle-based series.

It's no secret that the Frasier reboot missing a lot of original characters is actually a cause for concern for many, especially since the mothership series was known for its stellar ensemble cast. That being said, Harris attempts to ease people's fears by telling TV Line that not having those players back is actually a blessing to the show. Read his full quote below:

“Now we think it was a blessing because instead of having one foot in the past and one foot in the present, it did help us to shift focus and say, ‘OK, let’s really make this a third chapter. Let’s really make this its own creature, even if it still has the name Frasier, and let’s build up a new world around Frasier.

Niles & Daphne’s Frasier Reboot Absence Explained In hindsight, Niles' absence in the Frasier reboot shouldn’t be surprising. Pierce has been vocal against rebooting the beloved comedy even before the revival entered active development. Still, Grammer reached to offer the opportunity to reprise the character, but in line with his original stance, Pierce turned down the offer because he didn’t want to do a repeat of his award-winning performance in the first show.

Because of how beloved Niles and Daphne were in the original show, it's difficult to imagine that their absence will be beneficial to the reboot. However, as Harris points out, not having them around forces the new show to be more creative in their approach to Frasier's fourth act. Instead of simply doing a repeat of what worked in the parent series and relying heavily on nostalgia, they came up with a premise that is both fresh and still in line with the essence of the original Frasier.
