Nottinghamshire County Council is reviewing the future of its household waste recycling centres
Documents have revealed which Nottinghamshire tips could end up closing in the coming years amid plans for new "supersites" to replace those closed down. Household waste recylcing centres in West Bridgford , Kirkby and Bilsthorpe are among those that Nottinghamshire County Council could shut.
The first scenario would only keep four of the 12 current tips, with the Beeston, Calverton, Newark and Warsop sites being retained. To offset the eight closures, this scenario would see three new "supersites" being created. The second plan would see even further closures, with only the Calverton, Newark and Giltbrook sites being kept open. Three new "supersites" would again be created to offset the closures.
Final decisions are not likely for another few months as the council faces calls to reveal the outcome of the original 2022 review into its recylcing centres. Councillor Jason Zadrozny, leader of the Independent Alliance opposition group, said: "Nottinghamshire County Council claims to be transparent but refuse to reveal the outcome of the independent strategic review of recycling centres completed in 2022 – hiding behind commercial sensitives.
"Make no mistake, the Conservatives, who run the county council, are hellbent on shutting some of smaller recycling centres like the ones in Beeston, Giltbrook, Mansfield and Kirkby-in-Ashfield and the Independent Alliance opposition group will fight them all the way."
