“Going back is pretty amazing,” senior catcher Kalee Rochinski said. “Not many teams get to do it, especially in this new region we’re in. All the teams we faced deeper in the playoffs last year, we faced earlier this year, or they faced each other. Lake Creek swept then-No. 3 nationally ranked Barbers Hill in a regional semifinals series decided by three runs. Freshman Madalyn Davis’ walk-off RBI single won Game 1, 1-0. Lake Creek trailed twice in Game 2 before storming back to win 5-3 in Game 2, breaking a 3-3 tie with two runs off a throwing error in the top of the ninth inning.
The loss snapped a state-record 82-game win streak. Over the course of the streak, Lake Creek outscored opponents by an average of 7.6 runs per game and totaled 40 shutouts. Thirty-two of the wins were by run rule .
