Michael Wacha tagged for season-high-tying seven earned runs; Fernando Tatis Jr. homers; Nick Hernandez makes major league debut
The Dodgers jumped on Michael Wacha early, and the Padres could not make much of a promising inning against Lance Lynn.It also pretty much sums up the different directions of the two teams — one possessing MLB’s second-best offense and headed to the postseason for an 11th consecutive year, the other with one of MLB’s worst rates of converting baserunners into runs and likely on its way to a losing record for the 11th time in 13 seasons.
The Padres scored in the fourth inning after loading the bases with no outs and not getting another hit.The Padres staged their largest comeback of the season on Monday, going from down 7-2 to an 11-8 victory.Nick Hernandez made his major league debut in the bottom of the fifth, replacing Wacha, and worked two scoreless innings before being charged with two runs in the seventh.
Rich Hill replaced Hernandez with the bases loaded and no outs and allowed two of the runners to score. Hill also allowed two runs in the eighth. The seven runs Wacha allowed tied a season high previously done on April 14. He allowed five runs in his following start and had posted a 2.08 ERA in 16 starts leading up to Tuesday.
Lynn went seven innings, allowing just the two runs on five hits. He was replaced by Kyle Hurt, who cloed out the game with two scoreless innings in his MLB debut.
