The TUV's Jim Allister defeated Ian Paisley Jr on a tough night for the DUP
Jim Allister of the TUV has ended 54 years of the Paisley dynasty in North Antrim in a devastating result for the TUV.
In arguably the most stunning result in Northern Ireland on election night, the TUV leader defeated Ian Paisley by winning North Antrim with 11,642 votes, with a majority of 450 votes. North Antrim is an overwhelmingly unionist seat. It first existed from 1885 to 1922. From 1886 to 1974 the Conservative and Unionist members of the United Kingdom House of Commons formed a single Parliamentary party.
In 2010, when Jim Allister announced he would contest the constituency for the Traditional Unionist Voice, Ian Paisley Jr was elected with a significantly reduced majority.
