Michael O'Neill has named his starting XI for Sunday's game in Astana
The Northern Ireland manager has been cursed by bad luck in this campaign, with long-term injuries to key personnel detonating hopes of reaching next year's finals in Germany.
Steven Davis, Stuart Dallas, Corry Evans and Shane Ferguson have all been notable absentees, while O'Neill also lost several players this window including Conor Bradley, Jamal Lewis, Shayne Lavery, Dale Taylor and Gavin Whyte.Craig Cathcart and Ciaron Brown also picked up knocks against Slovenia and miss today's game, but Dan Ballard was back training and available for selection.
And Ballard got the nod on Sunday as he was named in O'Neill's starting XI, coming to replace the injured Brown .Also coming in are midfiielder Ali McCann and striker Conor Washington, with Isaac Price and Dion Charles dropping to the bench. It could be a 4-1-4-1 set-up from O'Neill with a back four of McNair, Evans, Ballard and Hume, who can slot into several positions.
Then we have a midfield of Charles sitting deep, Saville and McCann in central positions, and McMenamin and Kennedy out wide.On the bench it will be Hazard, Southwood, Spencer, Toal, Lane, P. Smyth, Price, Thompson, Lyons, Magennis, D. Charles and Jones. Sign up to our free sports newsletter to get the latest headlines to your inbox
