The council says it has an 'increased reliance' on council tax income
Financial savings planned at Nottingham City Council are among the highest in the country as the authority operates in what it describes as a "very volatile economic climate." The city council had already approved savings worth £29 million for the current financial year, which started in April, including withdrawing the wheelchair hire service at the Victoria Centre and stopping the collection of household bins put out on the wrong day.
Having asked 190 of the country's top-tier councils about their savings this year, Nottingham comes fifth highest in terms of planned savings as a percentage of its net budget. The data unit's research shows Nottingham is planning £36.9 million of savings overall this year, 14.1% of its net budget, with around £1 million of this being from reserves.
