The Premier League must change their financial rules to provide a level playing field after the points deduction verdict against Nottingham Forest.that Forest had a combined squad cost of just £12million when they were promoted to the top flight.
Forest achieved promotion in 2022 after winning the play-offs and were busy during the summer transfer window trying to strengthen their squad. Club chairman Evangelos Marinakis signed off on over 30 new signings following their promotion, which played a huge part in their breach of financial regulations.
Forest were deducted four points on Monday after exceeding their allowable losses by £34.5milion.Maguire believes financial rule changes are needed if newly-promoted sides are expected to go head-to-head with clubs that have squad costs of over £1billion.
