County went to the top of League 2 briefly after beating Salford
Notts County stretched their unbeaten run in League Two to seven games and went top of the division momentarily with a 2-0 victory over Salford City on Friday night. David McGoldrick gave the Magpies a first-half lead with his third goal of the season before Dan Crowley doubled the advantage after the break, which was also his third strike in the league for the club.
County were not giving Salford an inch and their dominance was rewarded when McGoldrick glanced Crowley’s cross from the right into the far corner. Macaulay Langstaff nearly doubled the lead just before the break but headed Matt Palmer’s whipped cross onto the crossbar. Both sides went down to 10 men in stoppage time when County’s Aaron Nemane and Salford’s Kevin Berkoe received second yellow cards. By then the result was wrapped up for County, who have not had any issues adapting to League Two football after getting over their opening-day defeat away at Sutton United.
The Notts manager made the comparison to Jamie Vardy, who rose up from non-league obscurity to become a Premier League great. Langstaff has journeyed up the leagues to reach this level with Notts, and his manager believes he shares similar qualities with Vardy.
