The calendar says June, so getting some summer weather shouldn't come as much of a surprise. But that won't help keep you cool on Friday.
Friday will be one of the warmer days we've seen this year, with highs peaking around 90 or higher in the early afternoon. Spots inland could eclipse that mark by a bit, especially north and west of the city. For much of the day, humidity levels will be low, so there’s thankfully no heat index to factor into the sweltering equation.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop in the mid-to later afternoon hours, with heavy rain and small hail possible. The best chance for those is north and west of Interstate 95. Air quality is also a concern. An advisory is in effect for New York City and Long Island through 11 p.m. Friday.
