Peter Ackermann, Oaks Christian’s only softball coach in school history, passed away. But his impact on student-athletes and the community will love on forever.

His bewildered look at an umpire after a bad call was comical. The way he sat, with his legs crossed, was iconic.The longtime Oaks Christian softball coach passed away last Saturday at 77 years old “as a result of a surgical procedure following lengthy health challenges”, according to the school.

Ackermann earned his 600th win in March of 2021. When asked if he remembered his first-ever win when he started at Newbury Park High in the 1990’s, he answered, “Really, no.”He won a lot of games, but more importantly, he impacted hundreds of lives and used a softball as a vehicle to do it. He had great players, most recently Maya Brady and last year’s Daily News Player of the Year, Micaela Kastor .
