The brave officer has earned herself a Happy Valley-related nickname.
Constable Catherine Parry, from North Wales Police, was shopping across the border in Oswestry when she stepped into help.The store manager at Sainsbury's called Constable Parry “the real Cathy from Happy Valley” - after the lead character from the iconic BBC television series – for displaying outstanding courage in protecting shoppers and subduing the offender.
Identifying herself as a police officer, she told him to put the knife down. But the man continued to scream and went behind the cigarette counter where he repeatedly stabbed the till so hard it broke the blade. “She saw an incident unfolding and did not hesitate to put herself in harm’s way to protect others, bringing it to a safe conclusion.
