San Diego State fights back from early hole, but cannot close gap five-time NCAA champs in 76-59 loss
As San Diego State’s basketball team began somberly filing off the elevated court at NRG Stadium on Monday, blue and white confetti swirling, the clapping became contagious.
SDSU guard Darrion Trammell walks off the court following Monday’s loss to UConn in the national championship game. Twenty minutes in, the Aztecs had hit just eight of 28 shots. They misfired on eight of 11 3-pointers. UConn, a multi-headed scoring monster, got points from all eight who played to that point. The Aztecs? Four of the nine who made the floor left without a point.The Aztecs went down swinging, all the same.
The former Syracuse huddle boss called that facet of the Aztecs “as good as anybody.” Could a team with serious point-scoring warts win it all, though? Could one end of the court overcome the other?
