Police shot a man who investigators say fired into a corner bar Monday afternoon in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia.
Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to Krupa’s Tavern on the corner of 27th and Brown streets for reports of a man sitting outside with a 9mm handgun.
Philadelphia Police Sergeant Eric Gripp told reporters that the bar staff was familiar with the armed 38-year-old suspect. "I don’t know if the folks inside either closed the door on him or he wasn’t allowed to come in, but he fired a shot into the bar," Gripp said. Investigators said when two uniformed officers arrived, the suspect fired at them. Police returned fire and struck the suspect in the thigh.
"The officers exited the vehicles, drew their weapons, and ordered the male multiple times to drop his weapon, our officers fired one round each," Gripp said.
