Combined, the 11 facilities reported $188.6 million in gambling revenue in September, up from $185.4 million made in the same month last year, according to reports Wednesday from the Ohio Casino Control and Lottery commissions.
September 2021 was also a record month.
Casinos and racinos are back to breaking records after going through a slow patch. Revenue was down from April through July compared to 2021. Ohio’s seven racinos took in $107.2 million, a $675,000 gain compared to September 2021 and $20.4 million gain compared to 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. Ohio’s four casinos took in $81.4 million, a $3.3 million gain compared to 2021 and a $13.1 gain compared to 2019.The gambling revenue is what the casinos and racinos make after paying out winnings, but before taxes. About one-third of this money is forwarded to the state in the form of taxes or fees.
Through the first nine months of 2022, the casinos and racinos have collected $1.76 billion in gambling revenue. That’s 1.3% ahead of 2021, when $1.74 billion was collected through September.
