But the way to fix that problem while also preserving state courts’ right to settle state redistricting issues is to order that the primary be moved, Russo and Sykes said in their filing in state court. The Democrats suggest June 28, a date Democrats previously have proposed, or any other date the court sees fit.
The Ohio Redistricting Commission has until March 28 to approve a new state legislative lines under the state supreme court’s deadline and has been holding regular meetings to work toward doing so. State Rep. Bill Seitz, the number two Republican in the Ohio House, said in a Monday interview the court already had broken the law by effectively causing the May 3 election to not be allowed to be held on time by rejecting several sets of Republican maps.
