The suspended Ohio National Guard member had been sent to Washington, D.C.
Ohio sent 100 guard members to D.C. to help with recent protests, DeWine said.
“While I fully support everyone’s right to free speech, guardsmen and women are sworn to protect all of us,” DeWine said, “regardless of race, ethnic background or religion." “Anyone who displays a malice toward specific groups of Americans has no place in the Ohio National Guard,” he said. DeWine said the FBI is investigating, but once that investigation is complete it is “highly likely” the guardsman will be permanently removed from the guard.
Demonstrations erupted in D.C. and in cities across the nation after the death of George Floyd, an African American man who died after a white Minneapolis police officer pinned him to the ground with his knee.
