“Farmers and gardeners are really the first to feel impacts from drought or rapidly drying conditions,” says Aaron Wilson, Ohio’s state climatologist.“It is a bit concerning looking at the extended forecast, but we’re not hitting the panic button quite yet,” says Ty Higgins of the Ohio Farm Bureau. But not every crop is in the growing season. Wheat is near the end of its growth cycle, and some farmers are growing concerned.

This was the case across the country. Corn yield in 2012 was 123.1 bushels per acre, nearly 30 bushels lower than in 2010 and the lowest since 1995.may need to up their irrigation tactics in June. But if conditions continue to stay as they are past the next two weeks, strategies may need to change.
