Ohio State had about as bad of a start as you could draw up. Then, the Buckeyes rebounded for a comeback win over Maryland.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — As far as first halves go, it would be hard to draw up a more negative one for Ohio State.
Even a half-opening touchdown drive from the Terrapins wasn’t enough upset fuel, as the Buckeyes put together enough in the second half to pull away for a 37-17 win on Saturday at Ohio Stadium.Ohio State has lost its superpower, but its past provides a way to overcome itAside from a Josh Proctor pick-six, there wasn’t much that went right for Ohio State in the first half.
Kyle McCord went 8 of 15 for 126 yards passing in the first half, aided by a 58-yard deep ball to Marvin Harrison Jr. Aside from that, Ohio State’s offense lacked spark and imagination as it put up just three offensive points in the first 30 minutes. In the second half, it found a rhythm. Absent running back TreVeyon Henderson, Chip Trayanum looked sharp on the day as the unquestioned next in line, and ended with 20 carries for 61 yards and a touchdown. But, once again, questions remain on the offensive line that will persist into the next few weeks, at least.Ohio State might be able to get away with a sluggish game against Purdue next Saturday. The Buckeyes will most certainly not be able to do so against Penn State the following week.
