Some members went on a daylong bus trip to learn about thw Underground Railroad and other events in Black history, hosted by Governors State alumnus Larry McClellan and historian Tom Shepherd.

This extended learning program offers challenging topics including current events, history, Abe Lincoln and the Beatles. Last year, The Knowledge Exchange introduced summer programs including concerts, lectures and field trips. Many of the classes deal with history, and the history of The Knowledge Exchange is also interesting.

Patterson, a co-founder of the Chicago Southland International Film Festival, led a film class in 2005, a precursor to her involvement.
