Olentangy Berlin visits Thomas Worthington for the central Ohio high school football Game of the Week for Week 10.
The Bears improved to 7-3 overall and finished 4-1 in the league, and likely clinched a home game in the opening round of the Division I, Region 2 playoffs. Berlin entered the game eighth in Region 2, while Thomas was sixth in Division I, Region 3.
The Cardinals have thrived throughout the season behind the combination of quarterback Will Cooper and wide receiver Joey Zalewski, but Berlin shut down that connection. Cooper entered the game with 2,829 yards passing and 32 touchdowns, and Zalewski had 49 receptions for 984 yards and 15 scores. Thomas running back Jaden Fields had 16 carries for 83 yards, and wide receiver Javon Hern finished with four receptions for 31 yards.
Running back Mason Ziegler rushed for 136 yards and two scores on 19 carries. His 68-yard touchdown run with 7 minutes, 35 seconds left in the fourth quarter put Berlin up 31-0 and sent the game to a running clock. “We put five people in the box and did what we could to stop their offense,” Eviston said. “It was awesome to win the title like this.”
