In the second part of his exclusive interview with the ECHO, Dean Sullivan spoke to the ECHO about the show's timeless legacy
The 68-year-old has taken a back seat from the world of performing and now picks acting jobs when it suits as he whiles away the days taking his pet schnauzer for a walk down the promenade or enjoying a glass of wine at his local pub. The soap star's legacy in the industry is secured as his iconic portrayal of Brookside's JImmy Corkhill will never be forgotten and still means he is stopped by fans on a daily basis.
"Jimmy Corkhill has given me the most wonderful lifestyle. I've got my own house, I've been all over the world. Do you think I'd begrudge all that? I don't think so." "This programme was first made 40 years ago. 40 years later and those issues are still as prevalent today." Dean admitted it's a shame that Liverpool hasn't had its own soap since Brookside finished and the region continues to have a special place in his heart, as he regularly admires the view of the city from his upstairs window. He said: "The Liverpool skyline has changed so much and I've been able to see that and watch that happen.
He said: "There's an appetite for it because it's had millions of hits on STV. I've mentioned this to [show creator] Phil Redmond in the past. It would be great to do a whole series based around where are they now." If Dean were to ever return as Jimmy he said he would have to "stipulate a few things" to prioritise a healthy work life balance. He said: "No early morning calls, no getting up at 5am to be in the makeup chair for 7am. None of that. No late night calls either. I could only work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday."
Dean has been announced as the keynote speaker for the 25th edition of the Pause for Hope service at the Metropolitan Cathedral, which will take place at 3pm on Sunday, September 24 and brings together those with cancer, their families, carers and friends as well as doctors, nurses and others involved in supporting them through their cancer journey.
