Ohio State's biggest transfer addition of the offseason plays in his home state on Saturday.
Igbinosun opened the season as a starting cornerback and has not yielded that spot. Across on the other sideline Saturday, his oder brother, Desmond, is a Rutgers defensive back.Outrageous predictions for Ohio State’s game against RutgersJim Knowles is still trying to figure out how to play Ohio State’s most underrated weapon moreHe almost saved her the trouble. Igbinosun was a Rutgers commit for about four months during his Union High School career.
The Igbinosun brothers grew up playing soccer. Davison, though, said he was already in love with football when his mother first signed him up for the sport in sixth grade. “It was a dynamic I think we needed,” defensive coordinator Jim Knowles said. “He raised the level of all the guys around him. A new guy, you come in and he’s competing in practice and everybody sees that. He’s not intimidated by anybody. So yeah, I think it helped a lot.”
“Those guys really embraced Davidson,” OSU coach Ryan Day said of the rest of the cornerback room. “You can see he’s done a really good job of establishing himself with his work ethic and his play, his toughness — and he’s producing. The full effect of Igbinosun’s presence will be on display Saturday, assuming safety Lathan Ransom is unable to play after suffering an injury last week at Wisconsin. Prior to Igbinosun’s arrival, Hancock and Burke were the projected starting corners. After his arrival, Hancock had the leeway to cross-train more at nickel safety. He has played it extensively, and may need to play it almost exclusively if the safety spots are shuffled temporarliy.
