DC's One-Star Squadron continues to show what happens to the heroes who aren't big enough to join the Justice League, as Minuteman searches for some less than legal ways to regain his powers.
The unforgiving economy is hitting one hero—Minute Man—in the DC Comics world hard as he goes on the search for bootleg superpower pills. The series One-Star Squadron has introduced a new app that allows citizens to request the services of heroes at affordable prices. But a preview for the newest issue shows the struggles of heroes desperate to remain relevant and financially solvent.
The comic has quite a bit to say about the state of side hustles becoming the main source of income for average citizens. Keeping the spirit of Russell's biting, yet humorous, social commentary, the world of One-Star Squadron is centered around an app called HEROZ4U that lets people book superheroes for protection, personalized messages or even children's entertainment. The app has mostly drawn in heroes whose careers have stagnated and are seeking purpose or, more likely, money.
In One Star Squadron #2 - available now - it's clear Minute Man isn't above doing what he needs to in order to remain relevant and keep his head above water. His future as a hero in the DC Comics world may be in doubt, but if he's willing to entertain for children's birthday parties, he just may find a way to get his powers in a more agreeable fashion. .
