One person died and a child was injured in a massive fire that impacted multiple buildings in East Boston early Tuesday morning.
The fire started around 5 a.m. in a multi-family building on Meridian Street and traveled to two adjacent buildings, the Boston Fire Department said.
About 30 people were displaced by the fire, and they are being assisted by the Red Cross and the city's Neighborhood Services Department. "Without the actions and quick response from multiple neighborhoods around the city, there surely would have been more lives lost," she said.Heavy smoke filled the neighborhood as firefighters continued to battle the fire, officials said. All firefighters were ordered to evacuate the building.
