Lady Deer’s Game 2 shocker sparks team to Area championship

“I just closed my eyes and hit the ball. It was almost the end of my senior year. No, I did not want it to end. That was a big moment,” Zaid said. “All season long we’ve been working on her standing there and being a swinger and not being a slapper. I’ve tried to convince her to do it because at the next level, it’ll be a big deal. She’s had some big hits standing in, but never against a pitcher that good. It was a big risk but she stepped up. They keep stepping up over and over again,” Deer Park head coach Amy Vidal said.
Seconds later, a table was hurriedly being unfolded behind the Deer Park dugout and on it went the turkey, the ham, the rolls and all the condiments. “None of us wanted to lose out already. I think everyone was thinking, we’re not going to lose to Alvin. It’s not our time to be out yet. We pushed through and kept fighting,” McKnight said.
Erin Perez tied the game with a ball that hugged the left-field foul line, Bryanna Fuentes drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly to center field, before a pretty squeeze bunt by Wilson plated the inning’s third run.
