After a wobbly opening four holes, Brian Harman righted the ship Saturday, finishing again with a five-shot advantage. Notes from the third round of The 151st Open Championship as Harman looks to claim his first major⤵️
It’s difficult to imagine the rest of the field having much of a shot Sunday without Harman backing up at least a little bit. He hasn’t done much of that in this championship recently. Going back to last year at St. Andrews, Harman has made just five bogeys in his last six rounds at The Open. Saturday was his sixth consecutive round in the 60s at this championship, one shy of the record set by Ernie Els in 1993 and 1994. And in his last 15 rounds overall, Harman’s scoring average is 66.9.
Rahm did everything well Saturday but was especially lethal with the shortest club in the bag, leading the field in strokes gained putting . It was the best performance in that metric for Rahm in any major championship round over the last two seasons.Among a group tied for fourth is Viktor Hovland, who has been in the top five entering the final round of four of the last five majors.
