Opinion: Democrats’ hypocrisy on impeachment
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi at the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday. By Ed Rogers Ed Rogers Opinion writer focusing on politics Email Bio Follow Opinion writer March 12 at 4:25 PM Which is it? Is President Trump an unfit character potentially implicated in multiple crimes? Or is the evidence against him so thin that the future of his presidency properly should be determined in the next election? As it is on a lot of things, the Democrats’ message is jumbled on the question of impeachment.
I am against impeachment. But the Democrats are so rattled by the president that they do not see the hypocrisy in their position. They have a constitutional responsibility to act if they believe they have the evidence. Aren’t there supposed to be mounds and mounds of evidence against Trump? Democrats should follow the evidence, follow procedure, meet the burden of proof and respect that everyone, including the president, is innocent until proven guilty. What’s keeping them? Now is their time.
